 +<p>PEOPLE’S AGREEMENT</p>
 +
+<p>[...] To guarantee human rights and to restore harmony with nature, it is necessary to effectively recognize and apply the rights of Mother Earth.   For this purpose, we propose the attached project for the Universal Declaration on the Rights of Mother Earth, in which it's recorded that:</p>
 +
+<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The right to live and to exist;<BR>
 +&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The right to be respected;<BR>
+&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The right to regenerate its bio-capacity and to continue it's vital cycles and processes free of human alteration;<BR>
+&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The right to maintain their identity and integrity as differentiated beings, self-regulated and interrelated;<BR>
+&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The right to water as the source of life;<BR>
 +&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The right to clean air;<BR>
 +&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The right to comprehensive health;<BR>
+&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The right to be free of contamination and pollution, free of toxic and radioactive waste;<BR>
+&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The right to be free of alterations or modifications of it's genetic structure in a manner that threatens it's integrity or vital and healthy functioning;<BR>
+&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The right to prompt and full restoration for violations to the rights acknowledged in this Declaration caused by human activities.</p>
 +
+<p>The "shared vision" seeks to stabilize the concentrations of greenhouse gases to make effective the Article 2 of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which states that "the stabilization of greenhouse gases concentrations in the atmosphere to a level that prevents dangerous anthropogenic inferences for the climate system." Our vision is based on the principle of historical common but differentiated responsibilities, to demand the developed countries to commit with quantifiable goals of emission reduction that will allow to return the concentrations of greenhouse gases to 300 ppm, therefore the increase in the average world temperature to a maximum of one degree Celsius.  As a marine biologist, a conservation leader, and an ocean farmer, we all believe that the ocean can go from unsung solution to policy cornerstone. To make that happen, the United States will have to do four things: 1. restore and protect coastal ecosystems; 2. invest in renewable offshore energy; 3. bolster the “blue economy;” and 4. vastly expand regenerative ocean farming. As a marine biologist, a conservation leader, and an ocean farmer, we all believe that the ocean can go from unsung solution to policy cornerstone.  +==== Degrowth and the Green New Deal ====
 +
+Gareth Dale, [[https://theecologist.org/2019/oct/28/degrowth-and-green-new-deal|Degrowth and the Green New Deal]]
 +
+I have in mind Alyssa Battistoni’s vision of a climate-stabilising socialism “oriented toward sustaining and improving human life as well as the lives of other species,” with an emphasis on green- and pink-collar labour such as “teaching, gardening, cooking, and nursing: work that makes people’s lives better without consuming vast amounts of resources, generating significant carbon emissions, or producing huge amounts of stuff.”
 +
+I’m thinking, too, of Tithi Bhattacharya’s reflections on ‘Three Ways a Green New Deal Can Promote Life Over Capital,’ with its call for “insurgent caring.” These share an understanding that the environment is a class question. The compulsive force that drives businesses to exploit workers drives them to plunder and despoil nature too. Ending the latter requires abolishing the former.
 +
+In this survey of the terrain, there is no ‘degrowth vs GND’ rivalry as such. Between the camp heartlands there clearly is. Growth boosterism and degrowth are incompatible, and the difference is often infused with morality and aesthetics—on one hand, a fetishism of technology, a belief that there exist no environmental limits and a dogma that ‘growth is good’; on the other, a self-righteous frugality and zeal for the hair shirt. But at the left corners, the tents are so close as to practically touch. The greater clashes will occur within each.
